Isn't it more expensive for Disney movies to use Nintendo, Capcom, or SEGA characters than Disney characters?

  • Using Wreck-it-Ralph as the example, Disney had to pay a licensing fee to Nintendo, Capcom, Konami, Sega, Namco Bandai, Sony, Warner Brothers & everybody else who they choose to use characters from.

    In addition to the fee, Disney had to comply with the restrictions imposed by each company on the usage of their licensed characters (generally how the character looks, moves & acts... in order to maintain character continuity).


    As a result, most companies try to avoid using licensed characters when possible to minimize costs.
