My 9 year old daughter wants to be a mechanic when she grows up. How can I explain to her that girls aren't mechanics?

  • Best Answer

Tell her to stick to the makeup and barbie dolls. She would make a better cook.

  • Looking for attention troll?

Anything men can do women can do as well! Despite yours and others opinions and the irrepairable chauvinistic anomaly in your brain women are doctors, dentists, mechanics, pilots, heavy equipment operators, firefighters, police officers, scientists, senators, congressional represenatives, astronauts, governors, mayors...

Don't poison your kids' minds with your chauvinistic cave man opinions

  • I'm an electrician with a cert in mechatronics, also a woman. Don't crush your daughter's dream just because you want to linger in your sexist way, plus she's only 9. When I was 9, I wanted to be anywhere from a vet to an aerospace engineer (I am planning on pursuing this one still).

  • Girls can be mechanics like they are electricians plumbers things have changed now not gender sensitive any more

  • I think you need to encourage her rather than tearing her down. Be happy she has aspirations at such a young age and keep her motivated. Women CAN be mechanics. I know because I am one. Let go of your preconceived notions and encourage her to pursue what she wants anf be successful at it

  • Just let her do what she wants. I’m a guy and if I have a daughter that wants to be a mechanic when she grows up I’ll let her. Hell I care if she wants to be a firefighter, a cop, a basketball player, or any jobs that most people think are just for men. Wherever she’s happy, I’m happy and I will be so proud of her whatever decision she makes in the future.

  • Don't bother. She is smarter than you and wants a good job when she graduates.

  • Tell her that girls are juveniles of our species and mechanics are a profession.
