Question about kids?

Why do stepmothers feel the need to legally adopt another woman's kids when those kids aren't biologically hers?

She'll tell people those kids are hers, when she didn't give birth to them, this pisses me off.

She's a stepmother and that's all she'll ever be.

Sorry you feel that way.  My husband and I both have kids from another person.  We made up our minds from the beginning that the kids would be OUR kids - not HIS or HER kids.  So technically the step parent is not the biological parent but they ARE still a parent to the kids and nothing wrong with calling them their kids.  Sounds like you are a jealous parent that is trying to poison your kids minds that the "step" parent is a bad parent and you don't want them to think of the parent as their own parent.  Sad.

  • Vaguely generalize much? Doncha think stepparent adoption is a case-by-case, individual decision? You wanna do a sociological-type study, go for it, but this ain't the way to get information of any value. In statistics, it's called "validity," which is whatcha don't got. Adoption can be a really great thing for a kid, but only if you think about it.

  • Most don't. Hard to speak for the ones that do, I am sure there are many motivations.

"She's a stepmother and that's all she'll ever be." - maybe to you, but ask some kids that have had step moms. They are often viewed as more of a mom than their real mom ever was.

  • If the biological mother is dead or has relinquished rights, and the children want to be adopted by their stepmother, then what business is it of yours?

Do you think this way about kids who are adopted, too? That adoptive parents aren't "real" parents, despite wanting those kids, loving them, supporting them, providing for them, and being there for them every single day in ways their birth parents couldn't or didn't want to be?

  • if the kids are with her and not their real mom and she takes care of them, then she is the mother figure

  • You just squirted the kid out, she's actually doing all the work.
