Why do liberals try so hard to spin the definition of 'socialism' when every adult with a 12th-grade education already knows what it is?

A lot of people just think anything they don't like is automatically socialist, it gets tiring

  • it's not just liberals

    Bernie is a SOCIALDEMOCRAT

Scandinavian- and rhineland capitalisms are not socialism.

Socialism is when people are paid according to their own work. When the means of production are owned by the people/workers or their local collectives. Where maximising profits is not a priority, but meeting the needs of the population is. No unemployment, no poverty, no homelessness, no billionnaires

Communism is when you work according to ability and receive according to need. It has never been achieved by an entire country

  • Most adults in this country couldn’t tell you the difference between Democratic Socialists, Socialists, and Communists if you held a gun to their head. You’re a great example.

  • because most people do not realize what socialism is.  for example most people think corporations are an example of capitalism.  not true, corporations are a socialist invention.  There is nothing in capitalism that suggests the ownership of companies should be shared among the public (did you ever wonder why corporation shares are called "shares"?).  Corporations only exist because of government intervention in the free market. Government created corporations because some ventures are too risky for an individual or partnership of persons to undertake.  The first 5 transcontinental railroads were all built with corporations subsidized by the government. All the original airlines were similarly subsidized by government mail contracts and government built airports. Part of the confusion of you and your friends is that for decades, the GOP has told you that Communism and Socialism are the same thing.  Did you know that socialism is actually a part of the Constitution?  The Constitution calls for the mail to be run by the government, and calls for post roads (highways) to be built by the government.  The primary feature of all Communist countries is there is only one legal political party, the Communist Party.  When Trump calls for opposition leaders to be put in jail, that is Communist Theory in practice.

  • The Democratic Socialists push Socialism as Socialism.

  • Indeed. It is forced equality by making everyone equally powerless and poor.
